With a long-term business growth strategy in China, Nike embarked on developing a centralised headquarters for its employees in Shanghai, occupying 600,000 sq ft of space within The Springs, a mixed-use development in the Yangpu District. Supporting Nike’s expansion, Commtech Asia was appointed by the sportswear retailer to deliver commissioning management services for its new campus, comprising a nine-storey office building and multi-purpose conference centre spanning five floors.
For an immense building that will house all of the Shanghai employees of Nike’s brands, Commtech Asia ensured the landlord’s provisional building services systems were robust enough to support the Nike’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design requirements.
As such, Commtech Asia was involved right from the beginning to review the landlord’s MEP design for commissionability and maintainability, providing the customer a detailed report of the MEP provisional items that the landlord provided, while identifying potential issues, way ahead of final procurement and installation on site.The results of these findings were then used to adapt a system that suited the needs of Nike, providing functionality and appropriate capacity for the building, which in turn helped the customer save on any additional or unnecessary costs.
Commtech Asia reviewed the landlord’s system installation, coordinating with the landlord’s consultant team and witnessing the critical equipment and system as they were being installed. Fire service cause and effect systems testing was also carried out, which benefits the customer by providing confirmation that the space performs according to design requirements.
